Clicky-links of coveting

Not that I'm going to purchase any of these, but goodness, they're pretty. I blame [livejournal.com profile] charmingmonstrs for linking to them.

The main EGL brand I covet stuff from is the Alice and the Pirates line from Baby The Stars Shine Bright. (Yes, I have a huge weakness for pirate lolita, which probably can be traced directly back to my crush on Adam Ant.) Which is why mini tricorn hats with large bows (clicky-link!) and Victorian pirate button boots (another clicky-link!) make me go "Oooooh, wanty!"

(I do SO need more mini tricorns and top hats. I DO. Do not argue with me.)

Dear Sandy Claws, I have been very very good this year. Please bring me lots of cute hats. Which, you must admit, are a much more reasonable request than my annual pleas for an arc welder.

Love, Cupcake Goth.

Hats are awesome.

[identity profile] robespierrette.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
More people should wear hats. I should wear hats. . . if only I could figure out a way to wear my hair up and have a hat fit. I guess I need something like those 18th century hats that perch up on top, and have a big, evil, hat pin through them. :)

I got you a thing, a little thing, and then I thought, when am I going to see her? ::scratches head::

Re: Hats are awesome.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, a thing! Um, I'm sure we can figure out a time to see each other. Oh, and I saw your question about gothy clothes for a 7 year old. Frilly or punky?

Re: Hats are awesome.

[identity profile] robespierrette.livejournal.com 2008-12-04 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say a bit more punky, but unavoidably cute. :)

She's more into jeans than skirts, certainly. But she does like her black t-shirt with the sparkly pink skull & crossbones. If she wore grown-up sizes it would probably be easier to shop for her!

[identity profile] jessicac.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
An arc welder isn't an unreasonable request. Especially if you have the power lines set up already.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I don't. And my family and friends think I shouldn't be allowed power tools or things that set other things on fire. I keep telling them I'd be very responsible and careful, and that having an arc welder would be SO USEFUL, but none of them believe me.

(Plus there's that small problem of my not knowing how to use an arc welder. But they're so nifty!)

[identity profile] jessicac.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Very few homes have actually been set on fire with an arc welder. That's one of those misunderstood fictions...

Arc welding machines are pretty easy to use, though mastery of making a good bead with proper penetration and not melting all the way through takes a while.

Oxyacetylene is a nice home set-up, too, since you can also use it as a cutter and for heating metal for bending and working.

Tim has both out in the garage. Since we bought the house I'll be willing to pay to have the right power lines run out tehre now so he can use the arc machine.

[identity profile] torreybird.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll just nod and say "us too!"

D has a mig welder (that we fell in love because of. Re-swoon.) and a scratch welder (not recommended) and an oxy-acetylene set up. If you get serious about wanting to learn, let us know. :-)

[identity profile] chrisrnps.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, but you can take welding classes and safety training.

AND....

...and and and...

You would then NEED a very steampunky outfit that included goggles and a matching leather apron / thick full-length gloves / hat set.

[identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
see THIS is what I keep saying too. Clearly you are on the same page we are...

Which probably puts you into that same "no arc welders for YOU" category we live in.

[identity profile] weaselmom.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
HEY NOW! *Some* of your friends, and I might venture so far as to say your *real* friends, are extremely in favor of your having an arc welder. And/or a plasma cutter. And of course an axe.

[identity profile] schwarze-krahe.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
hay lady, was wondering if you might be venturing out the club V this sat. I have been in the mood for dressing up and dancing to some good music with no smoke.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I probably will be out at Club V on Saturday. At least, that's what I'm planning on.

[identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Those boots are freaking amazing.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't they? I want them so. They're just so ... gah! If they only had slightly pointier toes, they would be THE PERFECT BOOTS.

[identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the Most Perfect Boots of All Time were those black and pink cameo and button boots.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
A pair of them was offered on one of the EGL sales communities in the past few months. Believe me, I spent a very long time pondering if I would be able to walk wearing those heels. I finally, regretfully, realized I wouldn't. But you're right, those were the Most Perfect Boots of All Time.

::sighs wistfully::

I think lolita stuff is cute... on people other than myself. That being said, I want this (http://www.babyssb.co.jp/shopping/pirates/103P322.html), or a reasonable facsimile. I can't do EGL, but I can totally buckle some swash! I really like the asymetrical and drapey stuff in the collection.

I don't think people realize this about me, but if I actually had a place to wear them, I'd own a *lot* more fancy clothes.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
See, one of the things I adore about pirate lolita is that the majority of it doesn't look like the wearer was attacked by random yards of lace. I want sleek, fitted jackets with my ruffles!

I've seen you get all fancied-up, and it makes me clap my hands with glee every time.

Not too expensive. IJS.

[identity profile] stroppy-baggage.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
You are so in DEEPEST trouble.

Anyway, it's not the expense of the welder, it's the expense of replacing the house and contents and possibly the insurance claims from neighbors...

Enabler.

Cool, 115v single-phase.

Then it's just a matter of distracting Pete while we disconnect the power from the house for about an hour to install dual dedicated 100-amp sub-panels for the Mad Scientist Lab Tower (with pulley system to raise things like monsters and "harnessing the power of lightning" experiments and small rockets and trebuchets and cages of bats and carrier pigeons and owls and balloon-chairs and the zeppelin mooring post through the trapdoor) that we'll be building in the backyard.

It's good to have supportive friends.

I like how you think.

I am going to be in sooo, soooo, sooooo very much trouble with [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, but damn I like how you think.

F2F is in Seattle. IJS.

Yes, and the events do not include having a bonfire party with the smoldering remains of our house!

An arc wielder's nothing. My sister asks for a small tactical nuclear weapon, the head of John the Baptist for genetic testing purposes, minions, an astronomy tower, and a secret lab every year.

My parents insist that they got her the secret lab, but they can't reveal where it is.

These shoes are very you

Totally off-topic, but do you still need some dressmaking shears? I just realized I have two extra pairs of the kind you were looking for, and would be more than happy to send one of them to you! :)

If you don't need them, then yes please!

You've got it! :)
