The fabric! It calls to me!

Look at this Alexander Henry "Ghastlies" fabric! (clicky-link to Etsy!) Ooooh, wouldn't it look darling as the border on a fluffy skirt? Help me decide, LJ Hivemind!

My darkling Kitty dress is made with a Ghastlies fabric. Just love it

It does look twee, but it also AWESOME fabric, buy it.

In my view, the print is so intricate that it would look great in a wide swath or panel; as a ruffle it might be hard to see the details. But I'm of the school of yes on this matter; get you some of that fabric!

Yeah, that. I am thinking curtains actually. Or maybe a pillow.

I would love a skirt of this. or a jacket. or both. ooooo

Full skirt or center panel. Not a ruffle or border.

And not for me. ;)

[identity profile] lylassandra.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, center panel good!

[identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not too twee, but maybe too... involved. You can't really appreciate that fabric without getting a really good look at it.

I'm thinking a purse or carry-all satchel sort of a thing...

Umbrella/Parasol lining!

OH LORD YES THIS. Brilliant!

I don't know that it goes with what I have seen as your aesthetic, but then again we don't see each other much. But maybe stretch some over a wooden thing (like canvas is stretched over like a square of wood) and hang it? It is pretty fabric, so I think it would make a good pillow or hanging thing like I just tried to describe, I just can't see it as a skirt border. But I am also wrong sometimes. :)

Did you realize that it also came with a mauve/pink backround?

Edited because OH LOOK, TAPE MEASURE. The print looks like it might be too big for anything other than a huge ruffle--you don't want disembodied heads and feet and skirts to best show it off, I think. I agree that a center panel or full skirt would be best.

And now I must consider dress prints. Heeheehee!

Someone on my lj list already has a lolita jumper out of that fabric. It's mega-adorable.

Making a JSK of it was the first idea, that sprang to my mind, too! It's just perfect for that kind of stuff...

[identity profile] a-witch-song.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
I like this print very much but if you put it as the border of a skirt, do you think that it will be big enough to see the details?
I don't know because I don't clearly see the final result but I think it would be a pity if you don't see all the details at the final :).

[identity profile] mimi-monsterr.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
you need that fabric! but I agree with other commenters, I think a detail a bit bigger than a ruffle would be best :) can't wait to see the final result!

Tian_shi made a lolita dress out of that and it's GORGEOUS. I'd link but it's f-locked.

Get someone to design it, or design it yourself.

cute, but you can get away with it :)

[identity profile] prettyshrub.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking it would look cute as an underskirt with a polonaise over it.

I gave a serious answer, but I was so tempted to check ticky box, I love ticky box. My lady, you made this exercise such a trap for me.

I love the fabric and I totally support you getting some (or lots) of it, but I wonder if just a ruffle of it on the bottom of a skirt would be a waste, since it looks like a fairly large design best displayed on a larger area of material (like the panels of a skirt or a bolero or something).
