Yeah yeah, that photo meme

1. Take a picture of yourself right now.
2. Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture.
3. Post that picture with NO editing.
4. Post these instructions with your picture.

Huh. Not a completely dreadful photo, I suppose. Yes, taken with the camera phone.

Given the limitations of a camera phone, I think you look lovely.

Shallow Fashion Details to explicate the hair adornment, please?

Hair adornment: lace-festooned hair ties/scrunchies. I make 'em with hair elastics and a lot of ribbon or flat lace. Tie lengths of ribbon and lace around the hair elastic until it resembles a gothy pom-pom. Then pull your hair back into a pony tail, and use the gothy pom-pom as a scrunchy. Use multiples for extra floof. (I'm wearing two of them in that photo.)

That? Is brilliant, and thank you for explaining it, because I am sure I can use this trick to compensate for Bad Hair Days without having to resort to the tubular crinoline or the Goth Muppet dreadfalls, which are perhaps over the top for daywear.

If I'm not wearing a hat, I probably am wearing the floofy gothy pom-pom hair ties. If I'm wearing a mini hat, I pull my hair back with the floofy ties. They are amazingly useful.

(Goth Muppet dreadfalls, yaaaaaaay!)

They are black and purple and lavender and I bought them (and the tubular crinoline ones, and a small thin blue/purple/black fall) from [livejournal.com profile] ankaret, and I love them a lot, even if my dear scenester roommate [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine and my emo-kid daughter express great concern for the fate of the erstwhile Muppet when I wear it out of the house.

I *love* the hair thingy. Love love love.

Dear Lady of the Manners:

I'm taking a drug that makes me sun-sensitive. Unfortunately, extreme scalp sensitivity led to my not wearing a hat last month. (Or using sunscreen; my skin was hypersensitive to the touch.) Now my face is darker than my bosom. :-(

What, if anything, can I do to accelerate the fading process?

Signed, The Brown Girl

Dear Brown Girl,

Aspirin masks! Dissolve 6-10 tablets of plain aspirin in a very small amount of water. Mix the resulting slightly-gritty mush with a dollop of plain lotion. (If you want to be EXTREMELY nice to your skin, add some honey and plain yogurt.) Apply the glop to clean skin, leave on for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse with cool water.

(The hair thingie is one of my favorite hair styling tricks. It looks elaborate and fancy, but really? It's a ponytail.)
