Shiny things I'm coveting

(No, I am not participating in the LJ "strike". I don't think that boycotting LJ for one day is going to do anything about any of the policy or communication issues they have.)

Anyway, shiny things! It is well-known that when it comes to jewelry, I fully embrace my gothy cliché-ness. Skulls? Yay! Bats? Even better! Skulls or bats with hearts or ankhs? Ohmygoodnessyesplease.

So! Under the cut-tag, photos and links to the current crop of over-the-top gothy-goth jewelry I'm coveting. Why? Well, at least this way I'll have all the links in one place? I don't know, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

First up, the most restrained item on the list!

The Calico Jack scent locket, from Black Phoenix Trading Post. Simple, elegant, and heavy silver.

The Reliquary Heart Locket, from those fine purveyors of gothtasticness, Alchemy Gothic. A heart-shaped locket! With a skull! Seriously, I have been looking for a pendant like this for years. I'm hoping one of the vendors at the Vampire Ball has this, so I can take a look at it in real life. Even [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage agreed that it was a nice-looking piece.

The Sacred Heart, from, yes, you guessed it, Alchemy Gothic. It loses points for not being a locket (I am VERY FOND of lockets), but still, very pretty.

Sacramental Road. Alchemy Gothic again. Wheeee! A scroll-work cross and a red heart; both of which are very important in Goth Bling. (Yes, Goth Bling. It is a specific subset of goth jewelry, and one that, while cheesy, has a strong grip on the magpie part of my brain. What? Stop snickering, you know you like it too.)

Death of a Vampire. Oh Alchemy Gothic, I love you so. A heart, a skull, AND bat wings? On a cross? I want this SO MUCH. I don't care if my wearing it would cause [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage and [livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps to injure themselves from the strain of continuous eye-rolling. It must be mine.

The Crystal Heart Ankh. I really like the idea of this, but feel that Alchemy Gothic didn't get it quite right. If it were silver and black and red, I would be squeaking madly and pawing at the monitor.

So! That concludes our little tour of wildly clichéd gothy-goth pendants that I am currently coveting. And what sort of shiny things are you coveting at the moment, hmmm?

[identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
and now I covet the first two lockets and the sacramental road.

CURSES!!!

[identity profile] trystbat.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I almost want the last one to wear at a SJ Sharks game!

I also quite like the Sacred Heart, but let's just say it's a good thing that Alchemy Gothic is a PITA to find online (hunting thru different sites, blah blah blah, make it easy for me to click my way into debt, dammit!). It also seems like the pendant is just on a ribbon, so I'd have to find a nice chain to put it on. And lord knows when that'd happen around here. Whew, saved m'self some dosh!

[identity profile] sirriamnis.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I heart the first three.

The last one just doesn't do it for me.

The others are a bit too flashy for me.

[identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Herro. I love Alchemy Gothic goth bling. For my part, I crave this horrible, horrible ring. It's horrible, but I can't tear myself away!

[identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
... And I'm waiting for a friend's tattoo artist to email me back to set up a consultation!

[identity profile] mrs-batman.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not jewelry, but I really want this table (http://potpourrigift.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=R66077). Alas, I have no room for it.

[identity profile] weaselmom.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's as if they're peering into your mind while designing these things! I was thinking of you and the Calico Jack locket last night when I was perusing the new BPAL offerings. But question: You're wearing mostly B&W and pink, right, so would the red and black stuff go with those outfits? Or would you just wear them on non-pink days?

Now you can feel all virtuous for saying no on the ankh piece. See? You're a model of restraint!

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I am all for wearing red accents with the B&W and pink stuff. It adds tonal depth. Somthing like that, anyway. I just like how red-accented jewelry looks with b&w and pink -themed outfits.

[identity profile] weaselmom.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You learn something new every day! Actually, I have anti-coveting* going on right now. We have too much stuff and I want to get rid of some of it but not take a bath financially. I don't think that Oaxacan carvings are going to be effective currency in the New Economy - we'll need bullets or Cliff bars or something.

*You caught me in a bald-faced lie. Tonight I go pick up a piece of jewelry I had made, a ring with mountains and trees and Northwesty stuff on it. Oops.

[identity profile] euterpe35.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are *Great* I especially like the one that you think will make Alexia roll her eyes. Oh, and the skull/heart locket... wow.

As for me, I am coveting more shoooz. Well maybe they are not shiny, but I want red/white polka shoes like the black/white ones I just got.

[identity profile] marc17.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The trouble with this "strike" thing, (besides that I also don't think it would do anything), is that I'm not really sure what it is about. I've only seen a few posts before today and only one had a link to any sort of information. Their complaint seems to be that LJ is not listening to some users and that basic free accounts can't be made. Not really sure what that's about because I just created one this morning for a writing project I have. All in all, the total amount of LJ drama and linkage that I've come to expect with such strikes and protests just isn't there to the point that I'm not convinced that it's not a hoax to begin with.

Plus, LJ wasn't "free" when I joined. You had to have a code to create an account. if they banned new free accounts, people would just go someplace else. I might be afraid of seeing more ads but not being prevented from creating a new account.

[identity profile] marc17.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I like 2 & 5 by the way. They'd look great on you. #1, maybe for a special event or outfit.

[identity profile] e-juliana.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
a) You are adorable.

b) OMG WANT CALICO JACK SCENT LOCKET NOWNOWNOWNOWNOW

c) Goth Bling. Hee!

[identity profile] fiorituranotte.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the 3rd and the 4th ones!

[identity profile] pope-guilty.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, that ankh could've been lovely.

[identity profile] keonei.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
GAH!

All are so pretty, *dazed* I am quite fond of the The Reliquary Heart Locket, The Sacred Heart. I can't decided between Sacramental Road or Death of a Vampire for my third choice although I am leaning towards Death of a Vampire. I guess you would have to give [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage some serious puppy dog eyes and get all 4 :)

[identity profile] squirrelmadness.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny, the first I heard of the so-called "strike" was when people on my friends list stated that they would not be participating, so the merit of the whole thing still really escapes me.

One question though: is it really a "strike" in the proper meaning of the word? People on livejournal aren't employees refusing to work (as gratifying an idea as that might be for some of us). Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that this is a boycott? Or is creative redefining of English vocabulary an integral part of the occasion?

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You are correct, the "strike" is not really a strike, but a boycott. But the (somewhat vague, I'll admit) understanding of the thinking behind the strike is that LJ is nothing without content, so people not posting content for a day will Do Something.

I don't think the boycott will accomplish anything. I think LJ has made some amazingly stupid mistakes in communicating with the users, but boycotting LJ for a day won't fix that.

[identity profile] squirrelmadness.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Very true. I can't see a one-day boycott having any major effect. A long-term once, certainly, but I can't imagine anyone boycotting livejournal for months on end, certainly not in sufficient numbers to have any effect.

[identity profile] jonquil.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Shiny thing I just bought because I damned well deserve a medal:

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, VERY pretty! Are you going to wear it pinned to the breast of a jacket you wear to work? I hope so.

[identity profile] jonquil.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn straight. In fact, I'm contemplating on pinning it to the summer-weight jacket I leave in the office.

[identity profile] triskelmoon.livejournal.com 2008-03-21 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Very Shiney. My inner magpie approves of your inner magpie's taste.
I was doing so well on resisting shineys recently, until the new BPTP Clockwork locket ate my soul.

[identity profile] ozitonaranjo.livejournal.com 2008-03-22 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
oooohh! I wants the lockets!

Rory wants me to ask if you could send us your mom's salsa recipe. Pretty please?

[identity profile] poetry-lady.livejournal.com 2008-03-22 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm coveting the ankh! It might have to become mine...even though I now have a permanent "pendant" ankh in the form of a tattoo... I could wear it on a huge ribbon with my keys.

I'm also coveting a certain boy and his car...which he said I could drive! (That is, if we ever see each other in person. /eyeroll at the company review process/)

We should have coffee someday soon...

[identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com 2008-03-22 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oo, preeetty! I don't do crosses or skulls, though, which rules out all of them.

[identity profile] cass404.livejournal.com 2008-03-22 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Scroll cross eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I have the Sacred Heart piece, and it really is GORGEOUS in person! (Not the world's best picture of me, but you can see the bling!)

I may wind up replacing the ribbons with a chain, because it's hard for me to tie them (stupid badly-behaved hands), so I don't wear it as often as I should . . . but I lurves it ^_^

The Reliquary Heart locket is KILLING me. Eeeee!

You have fabulous taste in jewelry, m'dear!

This (http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=914) bracelet and these (http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=875) earrings, and as our anniversary is next week I have mentioned to [livejournal.com profile] hendersj that if he is stumped for ideas, either of them would be wonderful.
