Dear Self,

Just accept the fact that you're not going to find a long black lace skirt that's full enough for your liking, and that you will end up buying fabric and making a long circle skirt. The sooner you come to terms with this, the sooner you can start browsing for lace fabric, instead of fruitlessly searching for ready-made skirts.

Yes, sewing from scratch. Ugh. But nothing out there is as flowy as you want.

With exasperated fondness,

Your Brain

Circle skirts are easy. Anything larger than 1 full circle, also easy. Just cut half circles and join till you get what you want. I usually cheat for the waist band and cut one off some old leggings or jammies and sew the skirt onto that since my waist bands never show, and soft old jammie waist bands are comfy and not too bulky.

Haha, YES to this waistband idea on a handmade skirt. I admit to doing this with elastic waistbands from yoga pants. :D

:) I feel you here.

Black lace = best thing ever.

Sewing from scratch isn't that bad, says the woman who's putting off starting her Halloween costume until after Burning Man and will probably regret doing so.

Black circle skirt = not too hard to find, but black lace circle skirt with LOTS of lace, and the right texture of lace so that it swirls and isn't stiff = next level difficulty. I am on the side of your brain's counsel here, even though sewing lace can be tricky, at least for me. You probably have considerably better sewing skills than I do!

Do you have a fabric source you like in Seattle?

True

The story of much of my closet as well.

This is my favorite giant lacy skirt - http://missbe-shop.com/long-skirt/67-missbe-new-burlesque-skirt.html

It probably lacks the large amount of flowiness, but it feels flowy when I'm wearing it. It's also oddly heavy! I still love it.

If the 'vogs deal fell through with corbaegirl, or even if it didn't....

Find lace you like online. Have it sent to me, along with measurements.

I'll make the skirt for you for (part)barter (i'd still do partial payment for 'vogs) or money, we'll figure it out. Email me angldst at gmail dot com and we'll discuss, if you'd like.

Here's another option, if it appeals to you.....

If you like a tiered skirt, look into these folks:

I have one of their gauze gypsy skirts and am wearing it right now. It's eight yards round at the hem so it's VERY full. That's the cotton gauze version. The link above is for the lace petticoat, which may or may not suit your wants/needs. Comes in a rainbow of colours, including black.
