Oh dear.

So, while I am a HUGE fan of My Chemical Romance, and am especially fond of Fall Out Boy, I never really got into Panic at the Disco. They seemed cute enough (if terribly, terribly young), but their music never really grabbed me.

I ... I like the new single. I liked the new single BEFORE I saw the video for it. But the video is all steampunk, with a wake and a vengeful ghost! Some of my favorite flavors of eye candy! (Not to mention that in some sections of the video, the lead singer is done up to look like a baby version of Dave Vanian.) It's almost as if they decided to make a video to catch the attention of all the ElderGoths who've been doing neo-Victorian for years and years. And damn them, it's working.

(This (clicky-link!) is a link to the teaser trailer for the video. The full video is on MTV's site, but I'm not linking to them.)

Did I roll my eyes at all the goggles on top hats? Yes, I did. Did I come close to ::facepalming:: at the sight of all the gears affixed to things? Oh yes. But otherwise, the video is all sorts of fun, and the damn song is catchy.

Help me. I don't need to be enamored of another band from the bandom scene.

I like Panic :) Sorta. They make me wanna dance.

The start of the video kinda sounded like the opening to something by The Birthday Massacre to me. That's why I'm being lured now! XD

"Help me. I don't need to be enamored of another band from the bandom scene." Go with it! It's fun! :P

More steampunk!

Give in.

P!ATD: what's not to love, honestly?

So, what else of theirs is good? The bits I'd heard off of Pretty Odd (that was the last release, right?) didn't grab me at all, and I haven't tracked down any of their earlier stuff.

Their first album is called A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. It's good.

This is probably their most famous song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc6vs-l5dkc Circus wedding!

Their first cd is WAY better than Pretty Odd. It's called "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out"

They've always had a Steampunk-ish vibe. They even had Lucent Dossier tour with them.. They kind of lost it with Pretty Odd though, and started copying the Beatles. The first cd is awesome though.

If the bits that you heard off Pretty Odd were: That Green Gentleman and Nine in the Afternoon, we're already speaking at cross purposes but in agreement.
:D

I happened to hear those two tracks because of my Nokia Xpress Music phone. It was featured in the video for That Green Gentleman and I got Nine in the Afternoon as a track on the mp3 player that the phone came with.

I fell in love with those songs. I'd been a fan before that from their first album but those songs were just the right something for me. I'm still hooked on them because of them.

You know how I feel about goggles on top hats...
If they follow through on the emails we have going back and forth with them the next video will have no goggles on top hats..

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
They need to be convinced that they should fly me out to be in a video. Yes. ::nods::

[identity profile] jaborwhalky.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
If I can make it happen then it will be so...

I just hope what is in the works happens as nothing is ever 100% till its done and being shown.

[identity profile] nina1984.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Darn it, that is catchy.

I stopped paying attention to them after Pretty Odd came out, but I used to love P!atD. I used to love their live shows 'cause they had a Vaudeville circus troupe w/burlesque elements to it. The show where the Dresden Dolls opened was so good, it still ranks in my top favorite concerts. Their tour for Pretty Odd didn't have any of the theatrical stuff, no makeup, no circus performers, etc. It was just a boring rock show.

Yay for Eldergoths!

Well, as usual when it comes to music you and I are in total agreement. I do like the look of the music video, even though I'm not totally onboard with the music yet. (Actually, I just saw a Steampunk-ish video by the Ranconteurs in Steam Fashion (http://community.livejournal.com/steamfashion) and I think Racs do it a tiny bit better.) But don't be ashamed! All of these musicians are closer in age to us than their supposed teen fanbases. ;)

That should be, "I think the Racs do it a tiny bit better." Evening brain drain...lol.

I just watched that video by the Ranconteurs, too. It hasn't grabbed me in the same way that the PatD one did. (Plus, I think I like Dead Weather better than the Ranconteurs.)

But I am *delighted* that all of these artists are doing interesting, dark-themed videos. Yay, eye candy!

Agreed! I've added both videos to my Youtube favorites so I can watch them again. I hope there's more to come.

Must check it out!

[identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Can't help you there, sugar. There have always been songs by PatD that I like. I am especially fond of 'I Kissed a Boy'.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Do you mean "I Kissed A Boy" - the spoof of "I Kissed A Girl"? If that's the song you're talking about, it's by Cobra Starship, not PatD. (I own a bunch of Cobra Starship. They're hilarious.)

[identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
oh curses. you're right.

I know there was something from PatD that I liked. but now I have fog and no clue. Ugh.

I think that the League of Steam and friends did a spectacular job on the video. I'm not a Patd fan, but it was nice to see things done well. So there are goggles on hats? Every subculture has it's symbols. You can't tell me that the goth community doesn't have some pretty silly looks. Goggles help differentiate it from a just neo-Victorian look. If you just came from riding in an ornithopter, you may have needed them and it's as good a place as any to put them.
Random gears on things is not something I'll defend, but it's not always bad. Again, they are symbols and signify the difference.
We did have a recent discussion about glass houses, yes?
I'm just quite pleased that the steampunk community was asked to help, as they did with the episode of Castle.

[identity profile] oldhalloween.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Watched the the video today. The League of Steam guys was a pleasant surprise. Cute and they had me at laying out the body. :o ) It was that circus wedding song that made me first notice PATD.

[identity profile] blasphemina.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like them and I thought the video was silly but I'm glad my friend is wearing her own stuff plus a headpiece by me and a corset by my friend. And that she's the only one in color :) Gives us all a little street cred XD But barely.

I couldn't stop laughing at the video. Oh gears.

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw your headpiece and the corset by Scoundrelle's Keep, and flailed while going "Hey, work by people I know! Yay!"

(Then I went and browsed her corsets again. Gnnng, must win lottery.)

[identity profile] blasphemina.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You're so cute! XD
