How I spent my evening

I have been saying for ages that I need a summer version of my usual top hat. After noodling around teh interwebs, I found a place that sold straw versions of my preferred hat shape!

Before:

After an evening of watching a silly movie (2009's Dorian Gray, which is very pretty) while doing a lot of sewing:

All I have left to do is add a hat band and feathers. Yes, my crafting/D.I.Y. urge when it comes to my wardrobe kind of borders on mania, how clever of you to have noticed.

That's actually very interesting. Almost like veiling the hat.

I am kind of surprised you did not paint it pink first.

Where did you find it? I want a straw top hat!

This! I need a hat appropriate for these 120 degree-heat-index-days-shoot-me-now.

I just wanted a top hat that wasn't 2+ lbs of wool.

Lovely. I want at straw hat too, but likely not a top hat. Where did you find it?

Did you put a new black bias binding on the edge too? Impressive job and so lovely! Now we just need a photo of you wearing it.

It was a bias-cut silk ribbon that I had stashed away somewhere. :)

There will be photos of me wearing it once I get done with the decorating part. More feathers! Resin bird skulls!

That is fantastic! Kudos to you for taking the time to do this. :)

Awsome. From drab to fab in a heartbeat. I love it, but I'm wondering why it wasn't painted pink before the black lace overlay.

I'm wondering if I could impose on you at some point to teach me how to do that for a hat I have meaning to do something similar to...?

Oh, that is quite lovely!

That is adorable. Looking forward to the photos post-embellishment.

Very nice job; it's really lovely. I like that you used lace to preserve the hat's breathability.

How did you do that?

That turned out to be absolutely gorgeous. <3

It's lovely! And so is the 2009 Dorian Gray, which has the advantage of being full of pretty MEN, who even occasionally kiss EACH OTHER. While wearing gorgeous period costume. This pretty much makes it candy-coated crack for me, even if objectively it's only a so-so movie.

I'd add roses, not feathers, unless maybe peacock feathers, but.. lovely hat!

That's beautiful! I love it.
