Fashion notes from my workplace

Dear Woman I Passed In The Cafeteria,

Yes, I get that my outfit is confusing to you. Rest assured that I am equally perplexed by your outfit of a "tweed" suit (matching jacket and micro-mini skirt) and thigh-high, high-heeled boots.

Yours in no-doubt mutual "She obviously chose to wear that" mystification,

Cupcake Goth

I think so . . . sounds like it.

[identity profile] corbaegirl.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I got a lot of that yesterday, because I was wearing--(wait for it)---A Hat.

[identity profile] tinkerbell86ca.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! A HAT?!?!

I like hats . . but my head is to large for most hats.

Tweed with fetish-esque boots? Odd.

However idiosyncratic your outfits are, they always look like the pieces were chosen to go together.

[identity profile] corbaegirl.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That's acually a pretty high-fashion look right now. Doesn't mean it makes any sense, though.

At least you don't look like you belong on the set of an office-themed porn production.

That's exactly my first thought too. Right after 'what the hell was she thinking' and 'wonder who she had a "business meeting" with.' I'm... actually mildly offended by her outfit (as you described it)... I think... wow, didn't see that coming. Can't really describe my reaction properly. The outfit could be awesome, but the context is completely wrong.

Who knew Business-Hooker was a dress code?

[identity profile] sirriamnis.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I felt the same way the first time I saw someone in a business skirt-suit and fishnets.

I guess I wouldn't normally think of thigh-high boots as work-appropriate clothing.

[identity profile] javagoth.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Call me old fashioned but I just never considered a micro-mini skirt or Thigh High Boots to be professional business attire - even at a place with no dress code. Having a micro-mini skirt in Tweed is just darn right Kinky!

[identity profile] angldst.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
omg preach to the choir. I AM old fashioned in this respect. I think that skirts much more than a couple (read TWO) inches above the knee have NO place in the office, unless said office is involved in the adult film/entertainment industry. ;)

Criminy. :)

I must have more info. Did she stand there and gaze at you slack-jawed? Did she give you a quizzical eyebrow lift in passing? How high up the thigh?

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
More of a smacked on the back of the head with a hammer facial expression. I'd say the skirt was at least 6" above the knees, and the boots went up about 4" above the knees.

Tweed. And thigh-high boots. I think my eyes are watering.

I'm hardly averse to hookerwear, but what message did she think she was sending? Probably not the one she wanted to.

[identity profile] theblackdeer.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, someone wore thigh high high heeled boots to *work*? The Evil Empire really just has no dress code at all, do they?

[identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Other than "wear clothes", no, not really.

The thigh-high boot sighting is now a multiple-times-a-day occurrence for me and I still don't understand it. I realize they are THE thing in fashion right now but I'm maybe 1 in 30 women I see in the things can actually pull them off without looking like a hooker or with the even more unfortunate slouchy kind, a confused pirate.

[identity profile] caleidescopeyes.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's just confusing. Like she was preparing to wade through swampy marshes before entertaining some lecherous Tories.

[identity profile] mr-cutiepants.livejournal.com 2010-03-26 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! Exactly.

I don't get the people who stare. Do they not go on the internet, ever? We are by far not the most interesting thing currently existing in the universe (this can be a good thing. :)

Goth has been around for 40 years now. Every time someone looks at my askew, I always wonder, "seriously, have they never seen this before, ever?". And then I feel a little bit of sympathy.

[identity profile] scarletfaewind.livejournal.com 2010-03-26 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Just because they go on the internet doesn't mean they go outside their own microscopic world. Heck, I have had to explain what BBC is and why anyone in America would watch it.

You were much more civil than I would have been. I would have made the observation that micro mini tweed suits with thigh high boots were done much better by Channel in 2004.

[identity profile] sparkymonster.livejournal.com 2010-03-26 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent point.

[identity profile] sparkymonster.livejournal.com 2010-03-26 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
I am very concerned about that "tweed" outfit.

I would, however, enjoy hear Andre Leon Talley's summary dismissal of its incoherency, gaucheness and general dreckitude.

[identity profile] tvashtri.livejournal.com 2010-03-26 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for summarizing my feelings every time someone gives me that *look* ;-)

You rock!
