Music recommendations? (Asking about a specific band.)

Look, everyone knows I have a tragic weakness for bombast. This is not a secret. Give me power chords and overwrought lyrics with gothy clichés* and I will be gleeful.

With that disclaimer out of the way: One of the munchkins over on the Emilie Autumn forum asked me if I had ever heard the song "Jillian" by Within Temptation. Er, no? I said, but checked it out on iTunes. I liked it enough to investigate more by the band. Do any of you listen to them? Or have suggestions for bands like them?

*Bands I would list in the "Bombast!" category include the Sisters Of Mercy, Queensryche (especially the Rage For Order album), HIM (yes, I own a lot of music by them, and grin whenever I listen to any of it), and Autumn Tears. My Chemical Romance would almost be placed in the "Bombast!" category (especially The Black Parade), but are a little too ... punk-influenced to be strictly Bombast kids.

I'm rather partial to Carfax Abbey myself. They might just qualify as bombast. Big power cords and such.

Actually going to throw a second recomendation on the Muse front. For a newish band they have some good bombast going for them. One of the few bands on the radio I really like right now.

I too am coming out of my lurkdom...I wholeheartedly recommend Within Temptation as well as the many other suggestions (E Nomine, Kamelot and Nightwish especially, although E Nomine's songs are mainly all German, and it's that alright, then I recommend Oomph!). I have noticed a lack of this group, they're still new-ish but damn, what a voice; Amberian Dawn.

How about just instrumental? I would recommend Apocalyptica, beautiful long haired boys playing metal (especially Metallica) on their cellos. *swoon* Oh Eicca!

Eicca? Ach! Perttu! Or Paavo, though he's married and a father.
But I really do agree on Apo, they're geniuses! Best ever is Antero with his sunglasses, sitting all straight and stiff whilst the others are headbanging and stomping and stuff. *chortle*

OK. I stumbled over some more music I think you'd like.

This is Havayoth. It's a Gothrock band from SkellefteƄ, Sweden. The singer is Vintersorg, who went on to do a billion space black metal albums about elves and planets. But, he sung on this band's one album, 'His Creation Reversed'. He has a deep voice, and I think it fits their sound very very well.

Their best song, called 'The Watcher', is here:

It might not be power chords, but have you checked out Sopor Aeternus? If you're looking for GAF, there you have it.
