Oh hey, there was something I wanted to burble about!

As seen on [livejournal.com profile] steamfashion a while ago, button covers for corset busks! (clicky-link, rah rah rah!)

I think that's a brilliant idea. I very much want to make some for my own corset collection. And I just had an idea that is either completely foolish, or amazingly clever, you tell me: instead of soldering pins onto the backs of buttons that you've cut the shank off of, wouldn't the jewelry finding to make clip-back earrings work just as well? The flat bit would slip behind the busk loop, and then the "front" of the button would close over the entire post & loop. You know, the same sort of theory behind fancy button covers for shirts & blouses.

Why yes, I am going to be experimenting with this in the next few days. I'll report back on how well it worked.

Special message to [livejournal.com profile] apostle: sweetie, could you please email me at headmistress (at) gothic-charm-school (dot) com? I have a question for you, and I apparently misplaced your email addy.

I'd be most interested in knowing how this worked. I've got a corset in the planning stages for costume college that could use this sort of finishing when worn.

I think the only benefit to cutting the shank off & soldering on the pin is for maximum flatness. But yes, experiment & report back to the class!

I love the button look, esp. since, in many ways, I'm kind of 'over' corsets as outerwear & this could be a way to revive the fashion for me :-)

the clip on earrings flap actually would stick out too much, and is not terribly secure.

I do have soldering technology... I am happy to trade for sewing technology.

I think your idea will be easier on the corset over the long run. I hope it works out well!

Hi,

I just want to add that I am a big fan of Gothic Miss Manners.com and Gothic Charm School.com. Though I do not consider myself in any way part of the gothic subculture, I sincerely enjoyed reading your articles. Kudos. And keep up the good work.
