If it's an issue of the kittens knocking over the tree, a bit of rope wound round the trunk and anchored in two spots (this works well in a corner, one anchor point on each wall) tends to do the job. Stood up well when we had seven kittens running about the place. I've yet to figure out how to keep them from climbing the tree and knocking off individual ornaments, though.
