If you want to decorate a "tree" so you can see your favorite ornaments, maybe hang a table runner or even just a line of wire high up some where and bedeck that. We did that a few times when we were going to be out of town, so no tree. When I had a long set of windows, I used to hang ornaments from the curtainrod.
